B is for Beer is a halfway book, neither truly a book for children nor fully a book for adults; but that halfway condition works to the book’s favour. B is for Beer is delightful piece of whimsy about a young girl, her family and beer and the girl’s adventures with a beer fairy.

During the course of the story Gracie Perkel gets to learn a bit about life and a lot about beer: how it is made, its history and uses, and how beer affects people. She also suffers bitter disappoints (sometimes caused by beer, but often not) and much happiness.

B is for Beer even allows for a sequel of sorts – about sugar elves – but I suspect that that would be a long time coming. In the meantime I shall wait for the beer fairy to visit me…
