Morgan Kingsley is an exorcist who happens to be possessed by the king of the demons. There is an unofficial war going on amongst the demon elite to depose the king and turn people into mindless hosts. Morgan is unwillingly hosting the king and has to keep his presence a secret for fear of being burnt alive by his enemies (the only way to kill a demon). There is a very small council of allies who know of the king (both mortal and human) and they are plotting to defeat the demon elite and help the king to rule again. While this plotting occurs, Morgan also has to deal with real life - bills, relationships, and earning – which is difficult when you’re being sued for a botched exorcism and suspended from the Licensing Board.

This book is a fun, fast-paced read that lets you uncover Machiavelli plots, mainly the lawsuit against Morgan, while exploring the various relationships amongst the council. I enjoyed this book more than the previous book in the series as it had more cunning plotting with plenty of action and sexual tension. The council seems like it’s ready to play hardball, switching from a defensive stance to an offensive one, setting things up to become very interesting in the next book. I’m waiting for Book 5!
