|You Suck is the sequel to Mr
Moores previous vampire novel Blood Sucking Fiends and is up
to the standards I now expect of him.
In this novel C. Thomas Flood learns about the
hazards of being a vampire, dealing with a body clock that automatically shuts him down at
sunrise and starts him up again at sunset, and the difficult art of acquiring a minion to
deal with businesses like landlords that traditionally run on the non-vampire
friendly hours of 9 to 5. And how do you have a pleasant cup of coffee if your nose, mind
and mouth are saying yes, but your body says no (but only after the fact)? Thomas finds
The humour of this book is that C. Thomas Flood doesnt live in the suburbs, where
being a vampire would stick out something rotten; he lives in downtown San Francisco,
which is peopled by those with a less than orthodox outlook on life: artists, students,
drug addicted educational and social dropouts, and tourists. For these people the goings
on of learner vampires is romantic or normal or romantic, sometimes all three. He only has
to worry about other vampires trying to kill him.
I found You Suck laugh out loud funny and a wonderful follow up
to Blood Sucking Fiends, possibly exceeding it in quality. This is
a book that should grace your shelves.
